Morning Walking/Jogging Club
Our students are invited to walk or jog on the track from 7:15-7:40 each morning. The schedule is:
Monday - 5th grade
Tuesday - 4th grade
Wednesday - 3rd grade
Thursday - 2nd grade
Friday - Kindergarten & 1st grade
When the weather is cold, students will need coats, gloves, and hats.
We will not walk if the temperature is below 32 degrees.
Mileage Club
Each classroom teacher keeps a record of how many laps students walk or jog around the school"s track.
Rewards are:
50 laps - toe token 200 laps - toe token 375 laps - #75 token
100 laps - toe token 250 laps - shoe lace 400 laps - toe token
125 laps - mini medal 300 laps - toe token 450 laps - toe token
150 laps - toe token 350 laps - toe token 500 laps - T-shirt
Family Track Night
Our first Family Track Night was from 5:30-6:30 on October 13th. A dog named Daisy and 101 parents, students, and staff members came out and enjoyed a walk with family and neighbors. The laps completed by parents count for the students in the recess mileage club. Our last Family Track Night was Tuesday, September 25, 2012. Families walked from 5:30-6:30 and had a wonderful time!
Field Day
Our Field Day is held each year at the end of school. All classes from preschool through fifth grade participate. Parent volunteers are always welcome.
Presidential Physical Fitness Test
The Presidential Physical Fitness Test is administered twice a year to students in grades 2-5. The pre-test is in September and the post-test is in April. Students that score 50% or more on the six items receive the National Fitness Award. Students who score 85% or more on the six test items receive the Presidential Fitness Award.
FitnessGram Test The FitnessGram is a new test for our students. This is the test chosen by all schools in North Carolina and we will test students twice a year.
Healthy Living Fundraisers at Williamsburg Elementary School
Jump Rope for Heart
Every year our third through fifth grade students participate in Jump Rope for Heart.
The American Heart Association benefits from all money that is raised.
School Walk for Diabetes
In October 2010, we held our first annual School Walk for Diabetes. The kindergarten through second grade students had a great time walking to help others.
Relay for Life
The Relay for Life Mini-Walk-a-thon sponsored by the American Cancer Society is held each year in the spring. All the students grades kindergarten through fifth participate in the walk.
