  • RCS Boasts 975 21st Century Classrooms
  • All RCS' full-time, certified staff are provided laptops
  • In the fall of 2013, all RCS high schools students, grades 9-12, were provided a Google Chromebook (laptop) for home and school use (over 4,000)!
  • Held the 2013 RCS Educator’s Conference with 200+ sessions for employees.
  • Rockingham County Schools is one of only seven school districts in the state to receive an “A” from NC Transparency (nctransparency.com)! NC Transparency was created by the John Locke Foundation in an effort to encourage transparency among North Carolina’s governmental entities.
  • Lin Stadler, Rockingham County High PE teacher/head football coach, was selected by the NC Coaches Association as the assistant coach for West All-Star football team at the East-West All-Star game to be held in the summer of 2014.
  • Draper Elementary was named the 2013 Gale and Library Media Connection National Elementary Award Winner.

  • Jim Wilson, RCS Director of Athletics, received the 2013 Charlie Adams Distinguished Service Award from the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.

  • RCS has been named one of The News & Record Top Workplaces in the Triad.  RCS ranked 3rd in the Large Category consisting of business or organizations employing more than 300 employees.  Additionally, RCS received a special recognition award in the training category.

  • Rockingham Early College High School (RECHS) was one of 42 high schools across the state of boasting a 100% four-year cohort graduation rate in 2013-14.

  • Rockingham County Schools won an Excellence in Communications Award for the RCS District Website from the NC Association of Government Information Officers.  

  • Nathaneal Pierson and Kaitlyn Sexton from Western Rockingham County Middle,  Bryan Pyrtle from Rockingham County Middle, Brendon Harris from Holmes Middle, and Garrett Wilson and Mattie Wingfield from McMichael High were selected to participate in the NC Music Educators Association (NCMEA) Honors Choirs.

  • Amanda Bell, RCS Board of Education member, was named to the Honorary All-State School Board by the North Carolina School Boards Association (NCSBA).

  • Brandon Cool from Western Rockingham Middle School and Dillon Shelton, Cory Lockhart, Garrett Wilson and Mattie Wingfield from McMichael High were selected out of over 1,500 students who auditioned from 13 southern states and Puerto Rico, by audition, to perform at the American Choral Director’s Association (ACDA) Southern Division Conference in Jacksonville, Florida.

  • Rockingham County Schools won 7 Blue Ribbon Awards from the NC School Public Relations Association.  RCS received recognition for the design, content and versatility of the RCS District Website, Marketing - The Choice that ROCKS!, RCS Branding, RCS Student Handbook, High School Options Info Guide, RCS Back to School Guide and the RCS Connect E-Newsletter.  

  • McMichael High’s Air Force JROTC Marksmanship team won gold at the North Carolina JR Olympics Shooting Match. All members of the team placed individually in the top 8! Additionally, Cadet Charles Collins set a new state and NATIONAL record!

  • Morehead High Wrestling Team - NCHSAA 3A State Dual & State Individual Champions.

  • Ben Bullins, Morehead High Wrestler, NCHSAA 3A 145 lb. weight class Individual State Champion.

  • Brandon Cool, 7th grade student at Western Rockingham Middle, received the Victor E. Bell Scholarship awarded by the College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC).

  • Positive Behavior Intervention Systems Program Awards - Green Ribbon Schools: Monroeton Elementary and Reidsville Middle; Model Ribbon SchoolsReidsville High, Western Rockingham Middle, Central Elementary and the SCORE Center; Exemplar Banner Status: Draper Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, Dillard Elementary, Huntsville Elementary and South End Elementary

  • Huntsville Elementary students Jordan Burnett, kindergarten, and Zachary Burnett, 3rd grade, were selected as Honorable Mention winners in the national “Music K-8” Cover Contest.

  • Lydia Rorrer, 3rd grade student at Douglass Elementary, was published in the April/May edition of Scholastic Storyworks, a nationwide publication.

  • Five RCS students were selected to attend the 2014 Governor’s School of North Carolina. Student: His/her high school: Subject area of focus: (Governor’s School West)

    Nancy Goodes, Reidsville High, 11th grade, English (Superintendent’s Choice); Shelby Spencer, McMichael High, 11th grade, Social Science; (Governor’s School East) Megan Blackwell, Reidsville High, 11th grade, Theater; Kathryn French, Rockingham County High, 11th grade, English; and John Cardwell, McMichael High, 11th grade, Instrumental Music: Trumpet

  • Winslow Gurney, 11th grade student at McMichael High, was selected to participate in the 2014 Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics (SVSM) program at Appalachian State University.

  • Jessica Baron, 5th year senior at Rockingham Early College High (RECHS), won 1st place in the District 6 U.S. House of Representatives Congressional Art Competition.

  • Col Henry Gaither, Air Force JROTC instructor at Rockingham County High School, was named 1 of the 2 National 2014 AFJROTC Outstanding Instructors of the Year.

  • India Brown, 10th grade student at Reidsville High, was selected to participate in the 2014 Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics (SVSM) program at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

  • The class of 2014 earned $17,810,373 in scholarship offerings.
