PBIS Program at

 Central Elementary School

·PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support) is a PROACTIVE approach to schoolwide discipline designed to be responsive to current social and educational challenges through assessment and effective interventions.

·PBIS is also a collaborative process that focuses on prevention and instruction as well as promoting positive student and staff behavior.

·Central Elementary staff and students implemented the program at the beginning of the 2010 school year. We have recently implemented the ticket system, in which the students can earn rewards for demonstrating good behavior in all areas of the school building and on the school bus.

·Our tickets are called Positive PAWS.  The students can earn PAWS throughout the day if a staff member sees students meeting the expectations placed on the school matrix.

·The students are also practicing different voice levels and where each voice level should be demonstrated.  The voice levels are as follows:

·0– Silence (in the hallway, line of cafeteria, and while the students are working in the classroom)

·1– Whisper (working in partners, bathroom, eating lunch)

·2– Quiet Conversation (working on group activities as well as other times – teacher's decision)

·3– Presentation Voice (giving a presentation in the student's classroom or at a program)

·4– Playground (The only time students can use this level is while they are at recess!!)

·REWARDS

·    Every week, two students will be drawn from the accumulated tickets and the teacher will reward the student for their good behavior.

·    At the end of the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th six weeks, there will be four students per grade level pulled from a drawing.  Winners will attend a special celebration.

·    There will be a school-wide celebration (ONE IN THE FALL, ONE IN THE SPRING) for those students who have had no office referrals for the 18 week period.

·    If a member of the PBIS team (A LIST OF MEMBERS IS ALSO LISTED IN YOUR NOTEBOOK), sees a class demonstrating the CLIMB motto, they may give that teacher a certificate to place around her door or any place in your room you would like. After the first 10 tickets classroom will receive a Pawsome Behavior Paw and bubble gum for each student to chew.  The second time classrooms must earn 15 tickets to earn the Pawsome behavior paw and bubble gum.  The third time classrooms will earn 25 tickets and must earn 25 each time thereafter in order to receive the Pawsome behavior paw.
