NCSU OREd

The NCSU Operations Research and Education Laboratory (OREd) offers school planning solutions that are driven by data and supported by policy in order to gain community support. As a part of the Institute for Transportation Research and Education (ITRE) at North Carolina State University, OREd has more than twenty-five years experience providing district school with information and tools for effective facilities planning. Land Use Study

Land Use Study includes two components : Community Interviews and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analysis
The purpose of the community interviews is to capture stakeholders’ knowledge and perceptions of key trend indicators, factors encouraging growth, factors constraining growth, and transportation and water/sewer issues that may impact residential and non-residential developments.
Community Interviews were held Mid-January, 2017
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) parcel data provides quantitative data concerning available parcels and subdivisions lots that can be used to identify areas of future growth. Student demographic analysis can also be conducted at this stage to better understand socioeconomic components that may influence school assignment decisions.
Finding Reports:
First Findings Report was presented to the Board of Education on March 13, 2017. Click here for the Findings Report.

Public Information Requests
Rockingham County Schools believes that transparency leads to public trust. Students, parents, employees, and the public have the right to request and inspect all public records available to them under state law.
Records available to the public are governed by two state laws:

General Statute Chapter 115C - Article 21A (PDF) outlines the employee information that is available to the public.
There are some exemptions to the public records law. Some individual student information, for example, is not available to the public. Please call the District Office at 336.627.2600 if you have any questions.
