    It is such an honor to serve as the Principal at McMichael High School! I am so excited about the upcoming school year.  I look forward to working with the entire school community to make McMichael the best school it can be!  I want each and every student to be prepared, and to reach his or her potential.  We will work as a school to provide each student with every opportunity to be successful.

    I have been in education for 15 years.  I started my career as a Middle School Special Education teacher in Guilford County.  After 4 years, I transferred to Northwest Guilford High School, where I remained for 11 years, both as a Special Education teacher and Assistant Principal.  I received a degree in Psychology, and a Minor in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  I then earned a Master's in Special Education from UNC Greensboro in 2009.  I received my M.S. Certification in School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2013.  

    I have a daughter, Carly, who is sophomore at Northwest High.  She keeps me busy on the weekends with her travel soccer games.

    Hello students, parents, family, and friends.  My name is Troy Marquardt, and it is an honor to serve as the new Assistant Principal of McMichael High School.  I am committed to building a positive school culture and thriving academic environment, by caring for students’ academic, social, and emotional needs.  I enjoy working closely with staff, students, and parents alike to create and support a positive, safe, and engaged learning community.  I believe that with hard work and perseverance, we can help every student reach his or her potential, and make a positive impact in students' academic achievements.  During the course of the year, I will work together with parents/guardians and our staff to provide students the best possible opportunities- preparing them to become world class citizens and lifelong learners, mastering the challenges of the 21st Century.  I will focus on school-wide initiatives to strengthen and enhance a safe, successful environment for all students.

    I received B.S. degree(s) in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, and Zoology; additionally earning an M.S. degree in Plant Physiology ,with a concentration in Molecular Biology, from North Carolina State University.  I worked in the private sector for eight years, until I felt the call to work with young minds in August of 2005.  I served as a National Boards Certified Science Teacher at Rockingham County High School for the last twelve years, and head of RCHS Academic Challenge Team for the last six years.  I received my M.S. degree in Leadership and School Administration from Gardner-Webb University in August of 2015.

    I am blessed to be married to my wonderful supportive wife, Rachel, and have two children, Kaitlyn and Trey who are students at Rockingham County Middle School and Monroeton Elementary, respectively.  My family and I are proud to be part of the “Phoenix” family.

         Tonya Jones began working at McMichael High School in 2014. Prior to working at DMHS, she worked was an Assistant Principal at Holmes Middle School. Ms. Jones has 15 years of experience in education and worked in Corporate America for VF Imagewear for 10 years as a general ledger accountant. Ms. Jones received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and a minor in Management at Saint Paul’s College. She took her education further to the University of Phoenix, where she received her Masters of Arts Degree in School Administration Leadership. Prior to her administrator position she worked for Guilford County Schools as a teacher at High Point Central High School. 

         Ms. Jones is a travel agent. She is dedicated to her church Mount Zion Baptist Church of Greensboro, Inc and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. Ms. Jones was also appointed to the Martinsville City School Board by the Martinsville City Council June 2017. Ms. Jones earned a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Duke University. Ms. Jones is currently a doctoral student at Grand Canyon University working towards her Ed.D in Organizational Leadership with an Emphasis in  Education. Ms. Jones hobbies includes: traveling the world, spending time with her family and blogging about fashion, decor and travels. Ms. Jones desire is to see that every child is successful and is able to thrive in a global society.
