The Morehead High School Panther Robotics program consists of two opportunities for the students that participate. Offered as both a educational program as an extracurricular club program, students build robots to perform various tasks using the VEX robotics platform. Students have the option of taking Honors Robotics Engineering Curriculum l and ll, as well as participating in the robotics club. Students are taught the various aspects of robotics design and applications. Students study the given task, identify various criteria, constraints and the specifications at hand. Then students design, build, program and test their robot creations to monitor their own trials, tribulations and success.

Offered as an extracurricular team, Team 9064 MHS Robotics is a student run VRC (VEX Robotics Competition) team from Morehead High School in Eden, NC. We work to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) to our students, school, and community. Since 2013, students from Morehead High School have gathered to participate in the VEX Robotics Competitions. Students build robots to perform tasks revealed and moderated by the VRC and robotevents.com organizations. These tasks form a game in which students have the chance to apply the math and science skills learned in class, as well as develop new problem solving skills that are applicable to everyday life. These skills are then applied in competitive situations, working alongside other students and professionals in the robotics field.

As the program grows and matures so does the student’s success. Team 9064 has qualified for the VRC World Championships twice in the past two seasons. They accomplished this feat by winning the VRC Excellence Award at the 2016 NC VRC State Championships. This is the highest award presented in the VEX Robotics Competition. They followed this up in the 2017 NC VRC State championships by winning the state championship. Way to go Panthers! Tthe team deserves to be recognized for building a quality robot and a “team” committed to quality in everything that they do.
