Parents/Guardians, The RCS Office of School Nutrition is excited to announce that all elementary students have been selected to participate in the USDA Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Grant Program. Through participation in the FFVP, our elementary-age students will have the opportunity to sample from a variety of locally grown, and even a select assortment of exotic, fresh fruits and vegetables over the course of the school year. We hope this program will encourage our students to try new foods, learn more about seasonal produce and support healthy eating habits to last a lifetime. Students are not required but encouraged to participate. If you suspect your student may incur an allergic reaction to specific fruits and/or vegetables, please ensure the school nurse has an updated list of your student’s allergies. If you would prefer your student not participate in the program, please communicate your request with your student’s classroom teacher. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your student’s participation in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, please contact Dr. Leslie Coleman-Cassell at 336-627-2691 or by email at lcoleman@rock.k12.nc.us.
