Rockingham County High School - Cell Phone Policy
For the 2025-2026 school year, all RCHS students will be expected to abide by the following guidelines when bringing a cell phone to school. Students are allowed to have a cell phone at school. This is a privilege that could be revoked if the guidelines below are not followed:
Students may use their cell phones responsibly on the bus, walking into school, and before entering first period each morning.
Upon entering their first class of the day, it is suggested that students power off their phones, but it is required that students either put their phones in a bookbag or in the teacher-provided pouch. ● The exception is a diabetic monitor on phones (phone on desk facedown).
Phones should not be on their person or visible on a desk during class time. Students may only use their phones during certain times of the day.
○ This includes Hallways during class change.
○ This also includes during the students' lunch period.
If parents need to get in touch with their child during the day, please call the main office at 336-634-3220, and we will assist. You can also reach your child during the 5-minute class change or 25-minute lunch period.
~ Students who disregard the cell phone expectations will receive the following consequences:
1st offense: Student will be given a warning and reminded of the next level of consequences.
2nd offense: Staff will take the device to the office. Student will pick it up at the end of the day.
3rd offense: Device will be sent to the office - PARENT must come in and pick it up at the end of the day. The student will be sent to ISS for the remainder of the day.
4th offense: Administration will take the phone to the office, PARENT will come pick it up, and the student is referred to administration for an office referral for continued insubordination.
Continued offenses: Administration will be notified each time and will decide further consequences.
Student and parent support of these guidelines will help ensure that teachers can teach and students can learn with fewer distractions! Thank you!
