Dear Friends of Holmes Middle School, Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood — a child battling cancer, a mother during childbirth, a neighbor after an accident. The gift of blood can mean the difference between life and loss. We invite you to be a hero in our community by donating at the Holmes Middle School Blood Drive:
Every pint you give can save up to three lives — three families who get more time together because of your generosity. This simple act of kindness echoes far beyond the walls of our school. The need for blood is urgent, and your donation can make an immediate impact.
The need for blood is constant and only volunteer donors can fulfill that need for patients in our community. Nationwide, someone needs a unit of blood every 2 to 3 seconds and most of us will need blood in our lifetime.
Thank you for supporting the American Red Cross blood program!

Parents, do you still need to order pictures? Our NEW Code Lookup Tool is now available. You can simply scan the QR code and follow the directions to access their child's picture ordering gallery. I have been in education for 16 years. I hold both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Special Education and began my teaching journey at Stoneville Elementary in 2007 as a special education teacher. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of serving as a special education teacher at several elementary schools across the district before earning my Master’s of School Administration degree. Since then, I have served as an Assistant Principal at Rockingham County Middle School and Morehead High School. In 2021, I was named Principal of Leaksville-Spray Elementary, and loved my time working with the elementary students that have now become middle schoolers here at HMS.
Through each of these roles, I’ve learned how important it is to build real connections, work together, and believe in our students’ potential. I look forward to continuing to serve in the Eden community and working with you.

I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and share my excitement in joining the HMS family as your new principal. I know that this transition came as a surprise, and that change, especially during the school year, can bring uncertainty. Please know that I recognize and respect the range of emotions that can come with such a change and want to make this transition as smooth as possible for the students, staff and community.
A little about me — I have been in education for 16 years. I have seen some of the HMS staff in action and know that they care about your school and students. My goal in the upcoming week is to listen, learn and support the students, staff and families of HMS. I will be visiting classrooms and meeting informally with staff to learn about their work and the school.
Thank you for welcoming me into your school community. I look forward to working alongside each of you to support our students. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or to simply introduce yourself. I’m looking forward to meeting each of you over the next few days!
Best Regards,
Tia Scales

With Gratitude ❤️
Good Afternoon, Families,
I am touched, speechless, and so appreciative of the kind messages, cards, and stories that families have shared with me this weekend. I truly felt seen. Many of you mentioned both the small moments and the big changes you’ve noticed, and your words have filled me with love. Thank you for taking the time to write to me—it has truly lifted my spirit. I cannot thank you enough for your support.
The news of my transition from Holmes to LSE was a surprise. While my background is in elementary education, I have loved the challenge and joy of learning the world of secondary education. I fell in love quickly with your students—they are bright, inquisitive, funny, and creative. I will greatly miss their energy and fun.
I have great respect for the new principal, Ms. Scales. She brings a wealth of knowledge in the areas of Exceptional Children (EC) and secondary education, and I know she is eager to learn the ropes at Holmes.
Please let your students know that I love them deeply and that I am looking forward to hearing about their successes—in the classroom, on the field or court, on the stage, and in the community. Continue the strength of “There is no place like Holmes” and keep encouraging your students toward excellence. There is no doubt in my mind that they will achieve it.
With love and gratitude,
Christy Ann Bailey
