🐎Mustang Weekly Updates🐎
9/8/25 Message:
🎉 Welcome to Holmes Middle School! 🎉
📢 Game Day Reminders & Updates 🏈🎉
Mustangs, please remember:
✅ If you plan on staying after school for a home sports game, you must turn in a game permission form by 10:00 a.m. on the day of the game. Forms can be given to your Core 1 teacher or the front office.
✅ If you leave school and plan to come back for the game, you must be accompanied by a parent or guardian 👨👩👧. Students cannot be dropped off without supervision.
⚡ Special Updates:
Because last week’s football game was canceled due to weather ⛈️, any guest with their red ticket 🎟️ will be admitted free to the next home Holmes game.
Students who stayed after school with Dr. Bailey for that game are also invited to attend the next home football game on 9/24 for free. (We kept a list of names—please see admin if you have questions.)
💙 Finally, a huge thank you to our families for your flexibility and quick response to the weather changes. We know everyone was excited to compete, dance, and cheer last Thursday, but the weather had other plans. Thank you for keeping such a positive spirit!
📢 Field Trip Volunteers:
It is THAT time of year. Please check the below link to ensure that your background check is up to date. 6th, 7th, and 8th grade are all planning fieldtrips. First up, is the 8th grade Zoo trip on October 7th. We would love to have you join us!

Our HMS students have the opportunity to volunteer with the Rockingham County Youth Services Peer Accountability Circle for the 2025-26 school year. A Restorative Justice Peer Accountability Circle is a community-based diversion program designed to provide an alternative response from the juvenile justice system offenders.
They adhere to the restorative justice theory which is based on the premise of accountability to the victim and the community. Peer Accountability Circles may act as an arm of the Court bringing together the juvenile offender and his/her parent(s)/guardian(s), the victim (when applicable), and members of the community.
The Circle addresses the needs of the youth, the victim and the community by developing a holistic understanding of the youth offender and the circumstances that led to the offense.
The Circle participants discuss the offense, ask questions, and make decisions as to how the offender should take responsibility for his or her actions. These decisions are prepared in the form of a comprehensive, collaborative plan of action that is signed by all parties involved.
Program and often the Juvenile Justice staff then monitor the youth’s progress.
The information and knowledge gained from this Restorative Justice experience assists the youthful offender to be better equipped to make improved life choices, change negative behaviors, and leads to the enhancement of public safety.
Successful completion of this diversion process can result in the youth not having a formal court record.
Peer Accountability Circles will be held on the first Wednesday of each month at the Youth Services Office (located inside the Veterans and Family Services Building at 405 NC Hwy 56, Reidsville) from 5:00PM to 7:00PM. There will be a mandatory volunteer training on Friday, September 26 from 5:00PM to 6:00PM.
If you are interested in volunteering as part of a Peer Accountability Circle, please review the Volunteer Rules and Agreement form and complete the attached application no later than Wednesday, September 17. Please return all completed applications to Mrs. Cassie Higgs, School Counselor, in Guidance.
For more information or questions regarding Peer Accountability Circles, please reach out to Tammy Burbey, Human Services Coordinator at Rockingham County Youth Services, at (336) 342-5756 ext. 2809 or tburbey@rockinghamcountync.gov.

🐎Mustang Weekly Updates🐎
9/1/25 Message:
Thank you for a GREAT first week of school! 🎉
It has been fantastic getting to know this middle school group, and we are excited for all the great learning and growth ahead. 🚀📚
📢 Chromebook Update
We want to share an important update regarding student Chromebooks. While all students will continue to have 1:1 Chromebook access in the classroom, we will not be sending devices home this year.
As teaching staff, we recognize the importance of being mindful with work assigned outside of the school day and are already thinking creatively about ways to support student learning without placing extra burdens on families. Please know — we want to remove this worry from you.
This was an unexpected challenge for us, as we had originally been told that our devices could be updated. Unfortunately, many could not, which reduced the number of Chromebooks available for home use.
✅ The good news: By Tuesday, each student will be assigned their own Chromebook for in-school use, and that device will travel with them from class to class.
Thank you for your understanding, patience, and support as we navigate this together. Our focus remains on ensuring every student has the tools they need to be successful here at Holmes. 💙🐎

Welcome families! I will attempt to do an All Call with this same info set for 6:00pm this evening. If it “misbehaves” again, I will have to use the robot voice to complete. Just wanted to give you a heads up that I try to post on ClassTag Sunday afternoon and you will receive the Sunday msg at 6pm with the same details. 🎉 Welcome to Holmes Middle School! 🎉
We can’t wait to see our Mustangs back on campus Monday! 🐎💙
📅 When: Monday, August 25th
🕒 Time: Carline runs 7:45–8:15am. Students are late after 8:25am.
✨ Tips for a Successful First Week:
✅ Breakfast and lunch are free for all students, every day.
✅ Set your alarm early—give yourself plenty of time!
✅ Lay out clothes and bookbags the night before to avoid rushing.
✅ Review your student’s schedule together so they know what to expect.
✅ Talk about goals & worries—naming concerns can make them smaller.
✅ Encourage independence—practice packing bags and keeping track of homework.
✅ Stay positive—it’s okay to be nervous. Teachers and staff are here to help everyone adjust!
🔔 Important Notes:
🚗 Carline: We have two lines moving in front of Holmes. Please remember—no passing once you’re in line, and we ask that you refrain from phone calls to stay alert as everyone learns our procedures.
🚪 Morning entry: All bus riders and car riders enter through the front doors and go through our metal detector system. Items such as laptops, metal art palettes, makeup tins, or large keychains may set off the alarm. Staff will be on hand to check items and help students get to class quickly.
💙 A Big Thank You!
🙌 To Leaksville United Methodist and our families for donating to our Clothes Closet and Snack Shack—we appreciate you!
📣 To our HMS Cheer Squad for leading the “Stuff the Bus” drive with special cheers and helping gather supplies for RCS students. Way to go, team!

Families, thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through a large number of new transportation requests and changes. Our team is working diligently to process everything as quickly as possible.
Please be aware that updates to bus assignments may take until the end of the upcoming week to be fully completed. We will continue checking daily and will notify everyone as soon as routes and assignments are finalized.
If you have not heard from school a confirmed route, then your students bus is still processing and you will need to plan to bring them to school. We will notify students/parents when we receive confirmed bus updates.
We appreciate your support as we work to ensure every student gets safely and smoothly to and from school!
