Also - if students do not stay after school, they cannot be dropped off at the game. They must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- Our Mustang Academic Title 1 Night is this Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. Come meet your child's teacher, pick up your child's progress report, and learn about the curriculum, SchoolConnect (formerly ClassTag), Canvas, and the importance of Title 1. If you have questions about getting connected to the school, accessing your student's Canvas, or any other school related questions, we will be happy to assist you and you can speak with someone regarding this. We hope you can join us!
- Some bus information for this week - Bus 336's AFTERNOON driver will be out this week. We have Monday and Tuesday currently covered by a double route. That means the driver will go out and do their normal route, and then return to school to pick up bus 336 students and take them home. They will be delayed in getting home. Bus 97 will not have a driver on Tuesday afternoon and we are currently working to get that covered, or provide a double route. We will keep you posted on CampusConnect or you can call the school.
- This Wednesday, the 25th, we welcome Dr. Bailey, our principal back from Medical Leave! She is very excited to be returning to school and getting back with the students and families and teachers of Holmes. Please join me by welcoming her back to our school!
As always - if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to the school and remember - there's no place like Holmes!

Dress to impress! October 9th is picture day.

Even though the stores have been selling pumpkins since July, September 22 is the first day of fall. ;)

Instead of hitting the repost button on violent or harmful content, let’s report it. Sharing only adds fear and stress, but reporting brings accountability. Together, we can make social media safer!
#Report, Not Repost

RCS and law enforcement aware of the continued social media threats being reposted. These threats are not directed toward any Rockingham County School or any school whatsoever. Law enforcement has deemed the posts as not credible or a hoax.
#Report, Don't Repost

If you see a social media post threatening violence, don’t repost it—Report It! The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. Let’s work together to keep our schools safe. #ReportNotRepost

Due to the heavy rainfall, localized flooding and isolated road closures, Rockingham County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay on Wednesday, September 18th, Staff are to report at normal time, unless unsafe to do so.

It takes a lot of technology to prepare our students for the ever changing workplace!

On September 17, 1787, the Founding Fathers signed the U.S. Constitution. For over 200 years, the Constitution has served as the supreme law of the land. The Constitution, along with the Bill of Rights and other amendments, define our government and guarantee our rights. Each year, on September 17, Americans celebrate Constitution Day and Citizenship Day. In addition, September 17-23 is also recognized as Constitution Week. During this time, USCIS encourages Americans to reflect on the rights and responsibilities of citizenship and what it means to be a U.S. citizen.

A Message from RCS
Dear Rockingham County Schools Families,
First and foremost, we want to express our deepest condolences to the families affected by the recent tragic incident at Apalachee High School in Georgia. The shooting that occurred in Winder, GA is every educators' worst fear. The RCS community continues to pray for the Winder community.
At RCS we continuously strive to make our schools as safe as we can. We believe our best defense is for each one of us to keep safety at the forefront of all we do. In the coming weeks we will learn what we can from this incident and make any needed adjustments.
We understand the worries families have about the safety of your children while at school. The shooting at Apalachee was a random act of violence. While it is a challenge to predict or prevent such occurrences entirely, please know that we are committed to taking every possible measure to protect our students. Your child's safety is and always will be our top priority.
Over the past two years, RCS has implemented, improved and upgraded several safety and security components. Some of the key improvements we have made to our Rockingham County Schools’ Comprehensive Safety and Security Plan are: access control and monitoring; emergency preparedness and response; on-site safety personnel, resources and weapons detection systems; safety inspections and assessments; and student well-being and a healthy school culture.
Please know we remain committed to maintaining a safe and inclusive learning environment for all of our students. While no school district, community or public entity is immune from senseless acts of violence despite our best efforts, we can do much to mitigate the potential. We will continue to look for ways to protect our students and staff to the best of our ability. We ask for Your continued involvement and support to help ensure the security and well-being of our school community. Together, we can ensure a safe and positive learning experience.
Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education.
Sincerely,
Sean Gladieux
Director of Safety
Dr. Shawn Stover, III
Superintendent

Good Evening Mustang Families, This is Mr. Bulla, Assistant Principal with your weekly announcements:
- Please make sure you are connected on School Connect - formerly ClassTag. We have an Athletic Newsletter posted on Sunday evening and a monthly School Newsletter. If you need help connecting to School Connect, please contact Mrs. McCorkle!
- Football will be taking team pictures on Monday, Sept. 9 and Cheerleaders will be taking pictures on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Coaches have handed out the picture sheets so ask your athlete about it. If you have any questions please contact Mrs. McCorkle.
- New Roofing will be happening at Holmes Middle School. The parking spaces in the morning drop off area to the right of the school by the Big Tree will be off limits due to dumpsters being placed in these locations. Please refrain from parking in those spots. Car Rider pick up and drop off should not be impacted.
- Any students who are interested in Student Leadership, please have those applications turned in to Mrs. Evans (6th grade) on Tuesday, September 10th.
- This is a very important message pertaining to your rising 7th grade child’s immunization needs. All North Carolina 7th grade students are required to obtain two immunizations, Those are the TDAP and meningococcal vaccines. This immunization requirement is due no later than September 24, 2024. Any student not submitting their updated record by the deadline will be excluded from attending school until the record is received. We are working hard to avoid that situation. Please make plans for your child now by contacting your child’s health care provider or the Rockingham County Health Department. For any questions or more information, please contact our school nurse.
- BUS Information for Monday: Bus 97 will be running during it's normally scheduled time. It will not be bus 343 in the morning. You should look for bus 97. Bus 185 should be running its NORMAL time and getting the students to school prior to 8:30. Please be on the lookout for these two changes.
For afternoon buses, there is a bit of a delay in some of the routes, so buses may arrive home a little later than normal.
Thank you for your support and as always if you have any questions please reach out to the school and remember, there's no place like Holmes!
