Please congratulate seventh-grader Trenton Thomas for being selected for the North Carolina Honors Chorus. Over 700 students in the state auditioned last week and Trenton was one of 180 who made this prestigious choir. Trenton will go to Winston-Salem for two days in November for the clinic and will perform with the NC Honors Chorus at the NC Music Educators Conference. The concert is open to the public and will be held Sunday, November 8 at 1:30 pm in the Benton Convention Center.

🩷Something Exciting is happening at Rock Middle! 🩷
Who doesn't love a good love story? Romance is, BY FAR, the most requested genre in our library (even from the boys)!
BUT - If you are a romance reader, you know that these books are not always appropriate for our middle school kiddos. Sometimes the spice level is too high, sometimes the language isn't great, and sometimes the situations are a little more mature than we would like our kids to read about.
So - to meet our student's needs - we would love to introduce a new (and totally optional) book club opportunity at our school.
The romance books that our book club will read will be:
1. Very low spice (maybe a kiss - after all, it IS a romance book).
2. Little to no inappropriate language.
3. Little to no drinking, drug use, or overly mature content/themes.
We will have our first book club meeting on Thursday, November 12 after school in the media center to discuss this month's book:
💖P.S. I Like You by Kasie West follows Lily Abbott, a high-school student who loves songwriting but feels a little out of place at school. When she writes some song lyrics on her chemistry desk, someone mysteriously continues them. Soon, Lily and her anonymous classmate begin exchanging notes and sharing their thoughts, music, and secrets. As Lily tries to figure out who her mystery pen pal is, she also navigates friendship, family, school drama, and her first real crush.
Content in "PS I Like You":
Language : Very mild - 2 instances where one character almost calls another a bad word
Sexual Content : NONE, Kiss Only
Drinking/Drugs/Smoking: NONE
Parents - you are, of course, welcome to join us and what a great opportunity for you to read a book along with your child and share a common interest with her/him!
We encourage you to order your own copy of this book or to borrow one from our library, the public library, or our online library system SORA.
Students should fill out the google form on Canvas to RSVP for the book club.
We look forward to reading with you!

The choir and band programs are in the middle of their fundraiser and had a "dunk tank day" for the students who met their first fundraising goal! Mr Williams may not have been expecting such precise throws from his students!

Last week was Sandy Hook Promise's National "Start with Hello" week, and we participated here at RCMS! Our SAVE Promise club sponsored a spirit week and on Tuesday, we did a Photo Booth in the cafeteria during lunch. Our yearbook staff took photos of students with some fun props to promote inclusion and connection!

Dress like Dolly.
Give like Dolly.
Read like Dolly.
Dolly Parton day was so much fun!
Our students embraced their country glam side, raised money for the Imagination Library AND - our favorite thing - spent some time reading for fun!
"You can never get enough books in the hands of enough children."

We LOVED seeing all of you today at OPEN HOUSE! We are excited for another great a school year!

This past Saturday, RCMS was a ServeNC site and we welcomed wonderful people to our campus who helped us to count and deliver workbooks (over 5,000 total) to our English Language Arts (ELA) classrooms. What a blessing!
