
RCS would like to invite our community to attend the RCS District Science Fair on Thursday, December 5th at Osborne Baptist Church in Eden. Elementary students will present projects from 8:30 - 11:00am with awards presented at 11am and secondary students will present projects from 11:30am - 2pm with awards presented at 2pm!

On November 20, 2024 the RCS Board of Education Policy Committee Meeting will be held from 8:30 - 9:30 am and the RCS Board of Education Meeting will be held at 10:00am at the RCS Administrative Offices , 511 Harrington Highway, Eden, NC .

Reminder for RCS families - November 5, 2024 is an optional teacher workday and no school for students. Also, this is election day and we encourage all eligible members of the RCS community to exercise their right to vote.

RCS is hosting a RockATOP Apprenticeship Community Night Tuesday, October 29, 2024 beginning at 6pm at the Rockingham County Economic Development Small Business & Tourism Building. This event is open to all Rockingham County students regardless of school.

RCS families mark your calendars -- All schools on the traditional school calendar have two important dates coming up - an early release day Friday, October 25th and a teacher workday with no school for students on Monday, October 28th.

This is Lauryn Duncan, Principal at Douglass Elementary School calling with a few announcements for the week.
Parents, please remember that our tardy bell rings at 7:50 am. If your child arrives after 7:50 am, someone must come inside to sign your child in. Also, please remember to display student name cards in windshields during dismissal. If your child’s name card is not displayed, you will be required to park, enter the office and show proof of identification. We appreciate your support in ensuring our students are safe.
This is a reminder that Morehead High School Student Council invites future Panthers to be a part of the Homecoming parade on October 11th. Please contact Stephanie Ellis or Koury Gibson at Morehead High School for more information.
Douglass PTO is asking for candy donations for the Trunk or Treat Read With Me event scheduled for Friday, October 25th from 5:00-7:00 pm. Please bring any candy donations to the front office. We look forward to seeing all of our families at this exciting event.
Parents, Wednesday, October 2nd is National School Custodian Day. We are fortunate at Douglass Elementary to have the best of the best who work hard to maintain a clean environment for our students. Please be sure to encourage your child to show their appreciation to our custodians, not just Wednesday, but every day!
Our Title 1 Curriculum Parent Night has been rescheduled to this Thursday, October 3rd. Our K-2 session will begin at 6:00 and our 3-5 session will begin at 6:30. Mrs. Thackston will have volunteer training beginning at 5:30 pm in Mr. Curtis' room. Please make plans to attend as you will receive information regarding the expectations of teaching and learning here at Douglass Elementary school. We look forward to seeing our families on Thursday.

I would like to thank everyone who participated in our candy bar fundraiser. Thank you to everyone who has turned in any outstanding candy money. We still have not received payments for 9 boxes of chocolate. Please know that all money helps support our students and their learning. If you have not turned in your candy money, please do so this week.
Parents, I am excited to announce that our fundraiser incentives have been scheduled. Students who sold 3 or more boxes of chocolate will be attending the Foam Party this Wednesday, October 3rd. Students who sold 4 or more boxes of chocolate will attend the Foam Party and also participate in the limo ride to lunch on November 1st. More information about the limo ride will be sent home in the coming weeks.
Congratulations to Aydan Ayala for being our top seller and congratulations to Hector Morales for being our second place top seller. Also, congratulations to Mrs. Pratt’s 2nd grade class for being our top class seller in grades K-2 and congratulations to Mrs. Slaughter’s 5th grade class for being our top class seller in grades 3-5.

Parents, progress reports will be sent home with your child this week. Please be sure to look over your child’s academic success.
Douglass Elementary PTO would like to invite all families to the Roll-A-Bout in Eden this Tuesday, September 24 from 5:30-7:30 pm for our first School Skate Night! Don’t forget to dress in your Douglass attire. Please remember that this is not a drop off event and an adult must accompany any student attending Skate Night.
Please remember that Friday, September 27 is an early release day. Students will be dismissed two hours early at 12:45pm. If your child is a car rider please be sure that their ride is here at 12:45 pm.

Parents, as a reminder Rockingham County Schools will continue to require approved background checks for any chaperone or volunteer within our school that has unsupervised contact with students. All background checks are handled online, including payment, no money is sent to school. More information about background checks can be found on our district’s website. This information is important as most of our grade levels have field trips scheduled during the fall semester.
