Some of our Douglass staff worked at the "Catch the Reading Bug" festival this past Saturday creating Elephant & Piggie character balloons for students all across Rockingham County Schools. The table was such a success, we ran out of supplies about an hour before the end of the event. Thank you for coming out if you were able to!

Dr. Cindy Corcoran, RCS's Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Support-Services, read two books to our 2nd grade classes today including "Buffalo Fluffalo" by Bess Kelb and "Yoshi Sea Turtle Genius: A True Story about an Amazing Swimmer" by Lynne Cox. Also we had Dr. Christy Bailey read poems and haiku's to one of our 5th grade classes.

Rockingham County Schools will be hosting the 32nd annual Elementary All -County Chorus at Western Rockingham Middle School tonight at 6pm and the doors will be open at 5:30pm. There is no cost for admission, but donations are accepted and greatly appreciated. Students from elementary schools all across Rockingham County have been working very hard preparing for this amazing event. Under the direction of Dr. Brett Nolker and accompanied by Ed Spencer, students will work together to transform 5 pieces of music into a beautiful performance for the community to enjoy.

Dr. Charles Perkins, RCS's Assistant Superintendent of K-12 Curriculum & Instruction read two books to our 1st grader classes today including "The Magical Yet" by Angela DiTerlizzi and "Just Ask" by Sonia Sotomayor. We also had Morehead High School's Assistant Principal, Landon Kimrey, read a story and discuss with one of our 5th grade classes about preparing to start middle school.

We had some awesome guest readers today - Officer Bibee read "The Invisible Boy" by Trudy Ludwig to our Pre-K students. Also, RCS's Human Resources Director, Lowell Rodgers, read "Hooray for Diffendoofer Day" by Dr. Seuss to one of our 4th grade classes.
