Morehead Special Events and Celebrations

At Morehead, we take pride in long-standing traditions. Listed are special events and celebrations we partake in.

Football Homecoming: At Morehead High School, football homecoming is a week-long celebration organized by the MHS Student Council in the fall. The festivities begin with a homecoming assembly that recognizes the homecoming court. On Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., the annual Powderpuff Game is held. On Friday, students, staff, alumni, and community members are invited to attend the Homecoming Parade along Washington Street, followed by the Homecoming Game at 7:00 p.m. in Panther Stadium. During halftime, the homecoming court nominees are formally recognized. The week concludes with the annual MHS Homecoming Dance on Saturday.

Basketball Homecoming: Basketball homecoming at Morehead High School is also celebrated with a variety of events throughout the week usually in late January/early February. Activities include a themed spirit week, a student vs. staff basketball game, and a pep rally. The celebration begins with a homecoming assembly to recognize the nominees. The student vs. staff game is typically held one evening during the week, and the Basketball Homecoming Game takes place on Friday.

The event is typically held in mid-May on a Saturday evening from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Seniors and their guests join classmates and teachers for an evening of celebration and fellowship.

The JROTC members and guests build camaraderie while providing the cadets an opportunity to practice proper etiquette and demonstrate professionalism.

Special Olympics: Special Olympics is an annual event during the Spring where all the schools come together to cheer on their special needs students. The event is open to the public so families are encouraged to attend to cheer for their favorite athlete. Special Olympics is funded through donations. Each school nominates a King and Queen then fund raise. The team who raises the most money wins the crown. Special Olympics 2026 will take place this year at Freedom Park in Eden on April 24. Opening ceremony and parade begins at 9am.
