Hello Raider Family,

My name is Janice Stokes, and I am truly honored and excited to join the Raider family in my new role as your new Assistant Principal. I look forward to building meaningful relationships with our students, families, staff, and community as we work together to make this an outstanding school year.

I have proudly served Rockingham County Schools for 23 years in various roles dedicated to supporting students, families, and educators. In addition to my experience in education, I have also worked in adult education and mental health.  Those experiences have strengthened my understanding of the importance of meeting the academic, social, and emotional needs of every learner.

I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and my K–12 licensure in Special Education from North Carolina A&T State University. I later completed my Master of Education in Special Education at Liberty University and earned my Post Master's Certificate (licensure) in School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

Throughout my career, I have been passionate about serving students and supporting educators. I was honored to be named Teacher of the Year for the 2023–2024 school year and was recognized by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction Exceptional Children's Division as a 2025–2026 Educator of Excellence. These accomplishments have strengthened my commitment to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending quality time with my family, traveling, and exploring new restaurants. I believe that building strong relationships and creating a positive school culture are essential to student success.

My vision is to cultivate a school community where every child is empowered through strong academic, emotional, and social supports to become a confident global learner, critical thinker, and productive member of society. I am committed to working alongside our dedicated staff, supportive families, and incredible students to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where everyone can thrive.
