RMS Principal

Mr. Casey Elrod ~ Principal

Mr. Casey Elrod has been at Reidsville Middle School as the principal since 2024. He previously served as the Assistant Principal at Dalton McMichael High School for the past two years. Mr. Elrod looks forward to returning to Reidsville Middle School in 2024-2025 and once again becoming a part of the Raider family.

Mr. Elrod grew up in the Northwest Georgia mountains working on dairy farms and in carpet mills. During college he worked as a substitute teacher and coach before taking a job in the public health sector. In the mid 2000’s Elrod began teaching and coaching in Rockingham County Schools. Following 12 years in combination of the middle and high school levels in Reidsville, Elrod started his Master’s in School Administration program at UNC-Chapel Hill. Elrod spent his Principal Internship year at Wentworth Elementary.

After completing his administrative licensure Mr. Elrod chose not to pursue any administrative positions in order to go ahead and complete a doctorate coursework. While completing his Superintendent Licensure research projects, he worked two years teaching and helping with administrative duties at Score in the Booker T. Washington Learning Center. Those research projects included analysis of BT Coaching/Mentoring Programs in Chatham County, the state of North Carolina and the United States as a whole.

After teaching high school Chemistry, Physics and Earth Science at Rockingham County High School Mr. Elrod was able to start his administrative experience with a great year at Holmes Middle School in 2021-2022. He was able to enjoy some wonderful growth at Dalton L. McMichael High School where he has been an Assistant Principal, and the Interim Principal (2023-2024).

Mr. Elrod plans to defend his dissertation to complete a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Administration, also from UNC-Chapel Hill. The dissertation is an analysis of CTE legislation regarding schedule flexibility and funding options. His research interests include Improvement Science and Analogous Learning. Additionally, Elrod teaches courses at UNC in the Peabody School of Education with particular emphasis on the Thrive Program for student success at a research university.

Lastly, as a high school coach Mr. Elrod won 15 basketball conference championships in 19 years and over 30 conference and state championships in fall and spring sports such as track, softball, tennis, football and golf. Elrod has been broadcasting college basketball games as an analyst and color commentator for networks such as ESPN, FOX, The ACC Network and the GoHeels Network.
