Mathematics
FOUNDATIONS OF NC MATH 1
Prerequisite: None, Credit: 1 elective, Grades: 9, Weight: S
Standards of Instruction and Learning are based on the first half of the Math I course standards. The major topics covered are performing operations with integers, solving equations from one-step to literal, linear functions, identifying slopes and y-intercepts for graphing and interpretation, arithmetic sequences, parallel and perpendicular lines, exponential functions, growth, decay, half-life, and geometric sequences.
NC MATH 1
Prerequisite: None, Credit: 1, Grades: 9, Weight: S
Standards of Instruction and Learning include those covered in the foundations course. In addition, students will study operations with polynomials, graphing inequalities in two variables, shapes, distance, midpoint, endpoints, linear regression, making predictions, residual, correlation coefficient, monomial rules and simplifying factoring polynomials, applications of factoring, using key features of quadratic functions to graph and respond to given scenarios, solving systems of equations by graphing, substitution, and elimination, creating and solving a system of equations from a worldly scenario, create, read, and interpret dot plots, histograms, measures of central tendency, standard deviation, box-and-whisker plots, making changings to a data set and the effect it can have.
NC MATH 2
Prerequisite: NC Math 1, Credit: 1, Grades: 10, Weight: S
Students will study topics that include Geometric Transformations, Triangles - Similarity and Congruence, Quadratics, Square Root and Inverse Variation Functions, Trigonometry - solving right triangles, and Probability. These topics will be studied over the course of a semester.
NC MATH 2 HONORS
Prerequisite: 8th-grade Algebra I or teacher recommendation or NC Math 1, Credit: 1, Grades: 9-10, Weight: H
Cover the Math 2 curriculum and extend concepts to include higher levels of critical thinking, problem analysis, and enrichment activities.
NC MATH 3
Prerequisite: NC Math 2, Credit: 1, Grades: 11, Weight: S
Students enrolled in this course will further explore and deepen their understanding of the concepts covered in Math 1 and Math 2. Students will study topics that include a focus on more complex functions (exponential/logarithm, rational, polynomial, absolute value/piecewise, and trigonometric), a focus on circles and triangles (radian, angles, segments, centers of triangles, and parallelograms), and a focus on the use of sample data to represent a population (random sampling, simulations/randomization, sample statistics and an introduction to inference).
NC MATH 3 HONORS

A North Carolina high school course focusing on functions, statistics, and mathematical modeling, serving as a capstone to Math 1-3, bridging to college-level math for non-STEM majors or preparing for Precalculus, covering advanced algebra, trigonometry (Laws of Sines/Cosines, identities), piecewise functions, probability distributions (binomial, normal), and statistical inference (sampling, confidence intervals) with real-world applications.
NC MATH 4 HONORS

PRECALCULUS HONORS

Students enrolled in this course will transform relations in two dimensions, use the quadratic relations (parabola, circle, ellipse, hyperbola) to model and solve problems, operate with vectors in two dimensions, use various function types to model and solve problems, create and use calculator-generated models of various function types, use the composition and inverse of functions, use polar and parametric equations, and explore the limit of a function graphically, numerically, and algebraically.
IB MATH: APPLICATIONS AND INTERPRETATION
Prerequisite: Math 1, Math 2, Math 3 Credit: 2 Grades: 11-12 Weight: IB
The IB DP Mathematics: "Applications and Interpretation" course recognizes the increasing role that mathematics and technology play in a diverse range of fields in a data-rich world. As such, it emphasizes the meaning of mathematics in context by focusing on topics that are often used as applications or in mathematical modelling. To give this understanding a firm foundation, this course includes topics traditionally part of a pre-university mathematics course, such as calculus and statistics. Students are encouraged to solve real-world problems, construct and communicate them mathematically, and interpret the conclusions or generalizations.
