Rockingham County Schools will have a remote learning day for all students, tomorrow, January 10, 2025 due to the forecast of inclement weather. Childcare will be available in the morning as scheduled and close at 12:00pm.


With the inclement weather forecast for our area tomorrow, RCS is considering our options including a remote learning day for students. We will be providing additional information on our websites, social media and the local news later this evening.

*School Closure Due to Inclement Weather*
Due to inclement weather, Rockingham County Schools will be closed for students tomorrow, January 7, 2025. Childcare services will be available at 12pm and close at the normal scheduled time. All school activities can take place between 2:30-5:00 pm. There will be no school activities permitted after 5 pm.

RHS Varsity Tennis Coach Michelle Witt is being recognized with the Junior Tennis Council Award Given In Honor of John Peddycord: This award recognizes the person who, through their efforts, willingness, cooperation and participation, has made the greatest contribution to junior tennis in North Carolina. Coach Witt will be recognized at the USTA NC Awards Luncheon at Pinehurst on Saturday, February 1st. Congrats Coach on this well deserved honor!!

Rockingham County Schools has decided there will be no school for students tomorrow, January 6, 2025. Daycare services will be closed. Also, all school based activities are cancelled. For staff, tomorrow will be an optional teacher workday.

Coach Marty Woods of the DMHS Girls Volleyball Team is one of two AVCA Girls High School Coaches of the Year! This year, the veteran coach led Dalton McMichael volleyball to the Class 2A state championship. This was the second time in the past three seasons the Phoenix had captured the state title, as her team also lifted the trophy in 2022.
Already the winningest volleyball coach in North Carolina history, Woods led her 2024 squad to a 30-2 record, which gives her 836 victories. This was her 47th year as the varsity volleyball coach at her school and she has led her teams to 46-straight winning seasons.
Coach Woods was the NCVBCA 2A Coach of the Year in 2024, elected to NCHSAA Hall of Fame in 2016 and was the Naismith Coach of the Year in 2015!! Congrats Coach Woods!!!



RCS was visited by the Grinch who was being mischievous so SRO Tallent put him in the chair of cheer!!!


As a reminder today, Dec. 20th, is an early release day for our students. Christmas break is December 21st through January 5th 2025. We will welcome our students back on January 6th 2025. RCS offices and schools will be closed December 24-26, 2024. Merry Christmas to all!!!

Today RCS had a surprise visit from one of Santa's elves!!!


Our RCS nurses wish all our staff, students & families a Merry Christmas!!


4th grade students at Lincoln Elementary came up with an idea after a Wonder's reading lesson, to make Christmas cards for a local nursing home! They created over 100 beautiful cards, which they happily delivered to the UNC Rockingham Rehabilitation and Nursing Home Center!!



The Grinch was seen on an RCS school bus this morning wishing students Merry Christmas! His heart grew three sizes!!


The Piedmont Triad Education Consortium recognized Leaksville-Spray and Southend Elementary Schools as signature schools! Congrats to the students and staff!!



RCS held our 5th Annual Middle School Academic Challenge Competition at RCC. Each team competed in 6 of the 12 rounds answering 10 questions testing their knowledge of English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and all around topics. 1st place RMS, 2nd place RCMS and tied for 3rd place HMS and WRMS.





Beginning Teachers are eligible for the local Delta Kappa Gamma Society Mini Grant in the amount of $200 each year. The RCS recipient for 2024 is Layton Helms from Morehead High School. Ms. Lynne Haynes and Ms. Rachel Scott surprised Mr. Helms and his students!!
